The success story
The Carrera Cup Deutschland has been contested since 1990, always as support to top-class German touring car series. The idea and concept with the Porsche 911 as race car, sprint races, and a top level motorsport environment has proven to be a success: in 2006, 12 Porsche makes cups take off worldwide (Porsche Michelin Supercup, Porsche Carrera Cups and 911 GT3 Cup Challenges) with races held in 31 countries. As a prestigious racing series in its own right, the Carrera Cup has proven to be an excellent launching pad for careers in touring and sportscar racing.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
The new 911 GT3 Cup, based on the current 911 (Type 997) can be seen in the Carrera Cups and the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge (USA) for the first time in 2006. Its 3.6-litre boxer engine delivers 400 hp (294 kW). Vehicle weight ca. 1,140 kilograms. New: the cockpit features a central information display; brake balance adjustable from the cockpit; sequential six-speed gearbox with ignition cut; increased downforce; ABS no longer available.

The Michelin tyres: new regulations for qualifying and race
The Michelin racing tyres for the Carrera Cup are identical for all competitors and must not be pre-warmed, chemically or mechanically treated. New: Per vehicle and weekend, two fullsets of new slicks are available for the qualifying and race (2005: three fresh slicks each for the front and the rear axle per vehicle and weekend).

The weekend programme
The weekend begins with two free practice sessions to set-up the car. On Saturday a qualifying session determines the grid, with the fastest starting the race from pole position and the slowest starting from the last place. Before the DTM race on Sunday, the Carr era Cup race takes off from a standing start and runs over approximately 80 kilometres or a maximum duration of 35 minutes.

The drivers championship points
20-18-16-14-12-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 points for positions 1 to 15. All race results count. To collect points each driver must contest at least six races in 2006.

The ZF-Sachs team championship
For this competition the points for the two best drivers of each team are added up after each race. For example, third place (16 points) and fifth place (12 points) are added to give the team 28 points for that particular round. At the end of the year Porsche rewards the top three teams with prize-money.
